The Birth of Family Constellation: Bert Hellinger and the Systemic View

Family Constellation was developed in the 1980s by the German therapist Bert Hellinger. Hellinger looked at human relationships through a "systemic" lens. According to him, we are not just individuals; we are parts of the family system into which we are born.

This system includes not only those related by blood, but also those excluded from the system, those lost at a young age, those who migrated, and those who suffered injustice. By addressing core concepts such as belonging, conscience, blind love, loyalty, balance, and order, Family Constellation brings to light the dynamics in the invisible part of the iceberg.

Everything is a System: Human, Nature, and Life

We are all born into a system. In fact, everything around us, living or non-living, is part of a system. A forest is not just made of trees; it is a magnificent balance created by trees, soil, and animals. For a television to work, every single circuit inside it must be in place and functional.

The human family is the same. If someone in the system is excluded, forgotten, or their place is not filled, the balance of the system is disrupted. The most fundamental goal of Family Constellation is the restoration of what is missing or excluded. When this "rightful placement" occurs, the energy (the flow of love) within the system begins to flow healthily again.

Representatives and the Miracle of the "Knowing Field"

One of the most curious aspects of a Family Constellation session is the representatives. During the work, people are chosen to represent individuals or emotions (e.g., mother, father, success, fear) within the client's family system.

In a morphic field called the "Knowing Field," these individuals reflect the emotions, bodily sensations, and dynamics of the person they represent in an almost embodied state. This is a moment of awareness beyond words. The real dynamic behind the appearance is substantiated in this field.

Transition from the "Child Piece" to an Adult Individual

Although many people are chronologically adults, they still react to life with their "child piece" due to a traumatic memory or loyalty inherited from ancestors. The child piece seeks approval, assumes the role of the victim, or takes on the responsibilities of others.

Family Constellation work holds up this mirror to you: Whose fate are you living? The moment you notice these entanglements and lovingly return the burdens of your ancestors to them, you realize that you have become a truly adult individual.
